Christmas Window Cake

Cake-Links Christchurch, reveal their Christmas Window Display Centrepiece Cake for 2013



This year's centrepiece is four tiers, with the top two tiers being double height, making the cake a total of 18" tall.

Designed on a 'big house' theme, with a small living room and open fire, with a sleeping cat, presents by the tree, and stockings over the fire.

The second tier is decorated as a Victorian kitchen with copper pans, bags of flour, and a huge range oven.

The third tier, is a grand dining room with tall Georgian style windows, a dining table full of turkey, cakes and pudding. There is a little dalmatian under the table.

The top tier is rooftops, with santa in moonlight against the night sky.
At the bottom of the cake is a real narrow gauge railway that goes round!

Busy Times Ahead

We've had a really busy time over the summer,


The summer started with a fabulous staff workshop hosted by Flavours Cookery School in Bournemouth. We all felt that many of our customers ask questions about Chocolate that we can't always answer, so in a bid to increase our knowledge, we did a Chocolate Workshop with Des at Flavours. We had a gorgeous time making - and eating - delicious whisky based truffles, malakoff, and fudge dipped in chocolate - We had such good fun and would highly recommend Des, Amy and the team at flavours for any cookery courses.

We then got really busy at our Christchurch Shop, helping our lovely customers with all their wedding cake projects, and were very grateful that our Student Laura returned for the Summer Break to help us out!

At the moment we are busy unpacking new Christmas Stock which we'll be launching in the next few days, it's very exciting opening all the new product boxes.

How to professionally level a Cake

The Great Christchurch Bake Weekend 2013

As part of the Christchurch Food Festival 2013, why not visit Christchurch Quay on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of May to watch the Christchurch Bake Off. With competition Judging on Saturday from Great British Bake Off Winner Jo Wheatley, and competition judging on Sunday from Celebrity Chef Lesley Waters.

Christchurch Food and Wine Festival 2013

Christchurch Food Festival Launched on Friday

This fabulous festival started in Christchurch on Friday with superb demonstartions in the Festival's marquee theatre, from Luke Stuart (White Pepper Cookery School); Forest Foraging with James
Golding (The Pig restaurant) and Paul Putt from Splinters Restaurant in Christchurch.

This annual event is most famous for it's wonderful food market. Set across two days (this year on the 11th and 12th of May)  it's not to be missed.  With over 100 stalls and food producers from far and wide, you can be sure to find a tasty range of food related products.

On offer is a tasty feast of freshly baked goods, cakes, olive oils, chilli's, specialist drinks, cheese, biscuits, sausages, oysters, meats including venison and game. You will also find local vegetable suppliers, fresh fruit including strawberries, and a myriad of takeaway food stalls including hog roast, paella and crepes, and you can wash it all down with beer, wine and cider for a range of producers!
If your passion is Italian Food, you can visite the cobbled area of Church street (The approach to Priory Gates) to find Genuine Italian Market Stalls, with authentic produce! You can also get some handy hints and tips from the free demonstrations, which this year will see the return of James Martin and Lesley Waters. And for a smaller family member there are kids cookery lessons at the Priory School on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of May. Cake International 2013 - Show Report



Cake International London ExCel 2013

What a fabulous time we have just had in London.
Cake International was a huge success, it was great to see so many visitors to the show.

The event lasting three days featured workshops and demo's by some of the countries leading sugar artists and published authors, as well as many international contributors, and famous television personalities.
 
We saw many of you had VIP passes - We would thoroughly recommend getting these if you come to the show next time - access to the theatres, free tea and coffee and a rest area! Perfect! 

Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood did some amazing Question and Answer Sessions, taking questions from a huge audience, and answering with all their professional knowledge and lots of humour thrown in too!

Cake-Links started on Thursday setting out our stall at the front entrance of the hall, it took us just three and a half hours to build this year, which is a record compared to previous years!  The First day of the show on Friday started with a huge queue outside the hall from before 9am (show starts at 9.30am). We even took some photos of the queues!


Cake-Links was also fortunate enough to be able to sponsor the novelty cake class, and the work entered was simply breath taking!

The competition work was outstanding - so much to look at and such talent on display - below is just a little of what was on show, 
Cake-Links were also asked to make a showcase cake to show new products - we decided to exhibit our new range of butterfly plunger cutters, the lovely range of pastel colours from sugarflair, and some small cake pops made with loypack candy coatings!
